Note about casting:

This show was chosen as it falls within our selection criteria as a fun, funny and quirky production having been crafted by Jewish creatives.

With a legacy spanning 35 years, Saltpillar Theatre, a non profit charitable organisation, has been dedicated to staging high quality and engaging productions that resonate with our Jewish identity for the benefit of the Jewish and broader communities.

In line with our recent focus on young Jewish adult participation, as a safe haven from the disturbing activities currently occurring on university campuses and in workplaces, we have curated small musicals to provide opportunities for emerging talents within our community.

To address an issue raised around the casting of this show, despite our outreach efforts, we did not receive applications from people of colour for roles in the trio. Following discussions with MTI, the licensing body for the show, and the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, casting was conducted based on the auditionees who attended, their merit and talent. We were assured and are satisfied that this process was appropriate. While our casting processes prioritise opportunities for our community members, we remain open and inclusive to individuals from all cultural backgrounds.
Saltpillar and our Little Shop of Horrors production team are committed to honouring the show’s essence with a fresh interpretation.
As a minority community ourselves, we are mindful of the importance of sensitivity and respect towards all individuals and cultures. We extend our assurance that our actions are rooted in goodwill, with no intent to cause harm or discomfort to any individual or community. Saltpillar Theatre reaffirms its commitment to celebrating Jewish creativity and fostering an environment of inclusivity and mutual respect within our theatre community.
